Suds on Son Day . . .

I love Sundays . . . every day is Son Day but Sunday is perhaps my favorite day of the week. Why? Because it is a day we set aside from the world to spend time in worship, rest, family time and simplicity.
It's rarely dull around here because following church and a simple lunch (often leftovers) we rest for awhile and then our local family gathers for a visit. That includes daughter, son-in-law, adult grandson and six year old great grandson. Today we had a special "family" member--our late son's best friend through High School and beyond whom since about 1980 we have referred to as our "other son" drove to Alabama from Michigan yesterday for a visit.
Our main meal on this sacred day is something very simply prepared. Today I invited all them to join us for corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes topped off with ice cream for dessert.
Since hubby's retirement in 1995, he has been instrumental in helping with clean up after meals though his generous and considerate habit has been really lax in the past year as dementia has crept in gradually stealing him from me. Unfortunately, that also means that it is a very rare occasion for him to pitch in without a specific request for aid.
Today it was a pleasant surprise to hear him in the kitchen loading the dishwasher. He started it (of course I still had pans, etc to attend to later) to run through the normal cycle. We all retired to the living room for some love and laughter.
Hubby went into the kitchen for some reason and shouted to me, "Hey, what's wrong with this dishwasher?" It sounded pretty normal but I went to check.
Now, this was not his first rodeo. The first one was about 30 years ago. He had done it again! Filled the detergent cup with Dawn liquid. Oh my! We had suds every where. I grabbed a couple of bath towels to mop it up while daughter looked in the laundry room for fabric softener (best suds cutter on the planet). I stopped the machine, opened the door and the white, billowing mass of tiny white bubbles was nearly up to the top rack.
Hubby was just flabbergasted but not wanting to embarrass him I said, "Well, I knew I should have mopped this floor yesterday." We all chuckled as I poured in about eight ounces of a fresh, sweet smelling fabric softener.
I closed the door to the dishwasher and reset it to begin the cycle. Let me tell you what! This house hasn't smelled that clean and fresh in every nook and cranny for good while. I highly recommend it for a whole house air freshener.
     Proverbs 17:22 "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine . . . "
     Ecclesiastes 3:4 "A time to weep and a time to laugh . . . "
Laughing at ourselves and loving one another makes my heart merry. The Son shines here in our humble home outside Athens Alabama on a warm and sunny day. It is my sincere hope that He has shone at your home too.
